a wonderful sampling of songs

Tom Mitchell has given us a wonderful sampling of songs fashioned with deep Southern Gothic lyrics and sparse, fitting instrumentation. He reaches deep inside and finds fresh expressions of ancient love, disappointment, loss and hope. I've listened to it for hours and find the special delights of each song more enduring with each listening. No spit and polish here. Each song and treatment is gentle, in its own way, yet pure and unsympathetic warmly wrapped in the title cut. I love it!
